Tiny Texas Houses

image image via here

From 25 Reasons Country is Chic Right Now, comes Tiny Texas Houses, based in Luling, TX (close to my hometown of San Antonio).

“My goal is to show people what can be done with a concept I call Salvage Building, thus what you see is 99% Pure Salvage. That means that everything from the doors, floors, windows, lumber, porch posts, glass, door hardware, and even the siding has been saved and re-used to create houses that we hope will last for a century or more.”

The images above look like a little artist’s retreat. The idea of a tiny weekend place, to read and relax, really holds tremendous appeal for me. Now to find some land…

And the winner of the $45 gift card to CSN stores is Domestic Diva! Thanks to all who entered.

I have mentioned before that I am a fan of the interiors at Hotel Missoni. So, I enjoyed this interview with Mamma Missoni in the Wall Street Journal.

Lourdes Sánchez Bull's-Eye Rug

imageThis Bull’s-Eye Rug caught my eye while looking over a recent West Elm catalog. Only available online, this would be great in our entry hall! Reinterpreted from a hand-painted watercolor by artist Lourdes Sánchez.

Plus, all side and coffee tables are 20% off right now. I have been needing a little drinks table to move around the living room,

A Simple Valentine’s Day

image  Leviev Chameleon Ring

You could give me a 5.89-carat chameleon diamond (which changes from light yellow to dark green with fluctuations in temperature and light), surrounded by eight oval diamonds totaling 1.68 carats and with more than a carat of white and pink pavé diamonds.

But, I would be happy with the following:

PLUS

My husband and baby girl - just the three of us.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Abstract Art

image Rex Ray "Megalaria," exclusive to World Market. 52”W x 27”H

I got an email this week about savings up to 50% on select wall art at World Market. While I do own lots of original art and plan on framing some of my photographs, on occasion, the quick and easy route appeals to me. I saw these two and found their colorful images captivating. The one above is groovy, and it is 52”W; we need something large for above our mantel. Even with my photography, the largest image I can get from Mpix is 24x36”W.

However, as you can see, I have been playing with my blog header. In reality, that image looks like this:

Untitled-33I may divide it into a triptych and hang it in our kitchen. We need some color on the walls.

This second one was fun and graphic. Both of these are on sale for less than $120, so an inexpensive easy way to brighten up a space. imageJodi Fuchs "Collective," 30Hx40W

CSN Stores Giveaway

I let the cat out of the bag my last post, and explained why I have been missing for the last 7 weeks. Increasing our family from 2 individuals to perhaps 6, will necessitate some changes.
I see two alternatives:
  • finish creating a well-functioning home (even if it will be more crowded)
  • buy a new home (what we want is a renovated ranch or to build something similar)
Honestly, the thought of trying to house-hunt, then pack and move, just makes me want to crawl back into bed. I think the smartest (and least stressful plan) will be to stay in our current home and really accelerate the process of getting things done. Without any pressing goals, it has been easy to put things off until the next week, or the next, or the next…
I mentioned before that new bar stools are on our list. Since CSN stores is sponsoring a $45 gift certificate (use it for any product on any of their sites), I thought I would check out their selection of adjustable bar stools. They have hundreds to choose from, both backless and with backs.
image Adjustable Airlift Bar Stool Set of 2 - $89
imageAirlift Bar Stool - $82.99
image Lyon Adjustable 30” Bar Stool, set of 2 - $144.02
I still like the Lyon, and you can choose from 3 colors: Dove Gray, Putty and Wedgewood Blue. However, not sure that I like it as much with a back. And the final decision will be whether or not I need backs with children using them. I have a feeling that it might be yes, and in that case, the Airlift bar stool looks good. Simply and clean.

Instant Motherhood: The First Month

 Pacifier
I can’t believe the last time I blogged was in December of 2010. If you recall, I had a huge list of things to do and not to do. Well, I am happy to report that SOME of these things got done.

The REASON why more didn’t get done, was a call on the evening of December 23, asking if we would foster a baby girl. I turned to my husband and asked what he thought. He said “my first inclination is to say no.” I tease him about that now. Needless to say, we got a baby Christmas Eve!
All I can say is that God knew what we needed even if we didn’t. And it came in the form of a precious bundle with big, blue eyes and the sweetest smile.

Of course, that means that my decorating priorities have changed. My time is more limited, so my post will come in smaller doses.

Since I can’t show you pictures of children (until they are legally ours), I can show random pictures of what my days involve now. I loved the colors of these pacifiers.
